By John JordanOrlandoGlobeSt.com

ORLANDO-Terming it the largest expansion in its history, Disney World announced that it had begun construction on its Avatar-inspired land project.
Disney released a video and images of a ceremonial groundbreaking for the project. Part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom park, the expansion will be adding a host of new entertainment experiences, according to the Orlando Business Journal.
At last week’s ceremony, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs spoke of the Avatar expansion. "When the expansion is complete in 2017, guests will encounter the Na'vi, fly with banshees and see the amazing world of Pandora at night. Disney's Animal Kingdom is already home to some of our guests' favorite attractions,” he stated.
No financial details on the expansion project were released. Also part of the initiative at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will include: adding a new after-dark spectacular centered around and above Discovery River, new nighttime entertainment including live performers on Discovery Island, and a new night version of Kilimanjaro Safaris. See story in the Orlando Business Journal.
