Actor Alan Cumming Buys East Village Townhouse for $4.65M

Actor Alan Cumming has pulled a David Schwimmer (well, phase one of a David Schwimmer), purchasing an old East Village townhouse for $4.65 million. The four-story, 20-foot-wide house at 404 East 9th Street had, before this sale, changed hands only once in the past 70 years. It is definitely in need of some work, but it's unclear whether or not Cumming will go full Schwimmer and tear the place down, or if he'll try to maintain the attractive red brick facade and cornice. The house was listed in August for $4.8 million and later upped its ask to $5.1 million, meaning that Cumming got it at a 9 percent discount.
