Miami on the Cheap has the scoop on the budget-friendly fun in Miami this weekend.
We’re supposed to honor our U.S. presidents this weekend but who are we kidding? It’s all about the three-day weekend. Plus, Saturday is Valentine’s Day. This weekend, you can ogle the majestic yachts at the free Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show and celebrate Valentine’s Day at several events on Miami Beach. If you’re the outdoorsy type, take advantage of free admission to Everglades National Park Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
It’s the second Saturday of the month so that means Wynwood Art Walk, where street art and eclectic galleries rule.
Floating in luxury
Why spend the day looking at boats indoors when you can enjoy luxury yachts outdoors in their ideal setting – on the water? Besides, the Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show, which runs through Monday, Feb. 16, is free. The waterway across from the iconic Eden Roc and Fontainebleau Hotels is the site for the show. It features more than 500 new and brokerage yachts on display as well as floating cocktail lounges and live entertainment. It’s on the Indian Creek Waterway between 41st Street and 52nd Street on Miami Beach. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.

See gators, birds and other wildlife free
Walk, bike, drive or take the free Homestead trolley at Everglades National Park this weekend. No matter what method you choose, your entrance is free. The views from the Bight Trail and Observation Tower go as far as the eye can see and the relaxed, serene setting is just the recharge you need before going back to work on Tuesday. Spot gators, wading birds and all sorts of other native wildlife. It’s our River of Grass and deserves a visit just to marvel at this ecological wonder.

Cupid’s arrow strikes at Flamingo Park & Betsy Hotel
There are a couple of choices for Valentine’s Day weekend events on Miami Beach. You can keep it simple by opting for the Friday night family-friendly Cupid’s Carnival from 6-9 p.m. at Flamingo Park. Enjoy the carnival rides and win a prize for your honey, then snuggle in the photo booth for a keepsake memory. Finish the night by sharing a cotton candy while listening to the jazz ensemble. Or head to the Betsy Hotel for the Opera lovers’ Valentine’s Soiree on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Miami singers will be joined by a Metropolitan Opera singer for a performance of arias by Puccini, Verdi, Lara and Gounod. The events will include serve one complimentary cocktail from the hotel’s signature restaurant, BLT Steak. The event is free but RSVP is required.
