Janet Leigh’s former home includes a shower. However, it’s doubtful that the actress ever used it.
After starring as Marion Crane, who was famously stabbed in the shower in Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho,” Leigh refused to use showers. In a ’95 interview, she said that she still had “absolutely no intention of stepping into a shower.”
The Academy Award nominee bought the Beverly Hills home in 1976, said listing agent Joyce Rey of Coldwell Banker Previews International. Rey shares the listing with Valerie Fitzgerald, also of Coldwell Banker. Leigh passed away in 2004.
The current owner, notes Rey, completed a full remodel of the home.
“She enjoys remodeling and is quite talented,” Rey said. “She added a gym, opened up the floor plan, redid the landscape, added an outdoor cabana and completely remodeled the staff area.”
The result is an open and spacious contemporary interpretation of the home. A two-sided fireplace, surrounded by stone, takes center court in the living room. Glossy black floors continue throughout the home, and the occasional bright punches of color tie it all together.
Sitting on its “own promontory,” the gated estate has views stretching from the city to the ocean and is encircled by pine trees. A separate office sits at the front of the property, and the grounds also include a tennis court and cabana. Inside, the house measures 5,180 square feet, with 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms.
