Later this summer, Swedish DIY furniture store IKEA will open its first Miami-Dade shop.

Five years ago the site was the subject of a county consultant study that looked into the market viability of a mega-mall opening in West Miami-Dade.  But no such shopping center has been built, according to Miami Today

“I believe that the study might have been something that swayed them [IKEA] to really take a look at this particular area,” Mr. Moss said.

The new IKEA is located on about 14.6 acres west of Dolphin Mall and east of the Turnpike. The 416,000-square-foot facility will also feature a 600-seat Swedish restaurant — think meatballs —  a market and a café, according to the company’s website. [Miami Today] – Christopher Cameron

Jack Black’s Former Industrial Modern Is No Joke

Jack Black and his wife, Tanya Haden, began their life together with a major remodel of this modern home in the Hollywood Hills. The comedian, actor and musician and Haden, who is an accomplished cellist, completed the major remodel just before they married in 2006.

The couple traded up once they had kids, selling the home for $1.21 million.

Now it’s back on market, listed by Joe Babajian and Stephen Walton of Rodeo Realty for $2.899 million.

The white-and-black, 3,906-square-foot modern is tucked onto a cul-de-sac off winding Laurel Pass Way, with a large yard and pool in the back. Steel commercial beams, large walls of glass and concrete floors give the home an industrial feel.

Black bought the house at 8538 Eastwood Rd in 2002 with his then-girlfriend Laura Kightlinger. After their breakup, Black and Haden remodeled the home in 2005, just before they married and started having children in 2006.

In 2011, Black and Haden bought a home from Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea in the trendy Los Feliz neighborhood for nearly $6 million

Sand trim between coats for an ultra-smooth finish

One coat of paint usually won’t hide the underlying color and sheen on trim. And if you don’t sand the surface smooth between coats, the finish may have a grainy texture. For a smooth finish, sand the trim before applying each coat of paint.

Sand the trim with a fine-grit sanding sponge. Sponges get into crevices where sandpaper can’t go and let you apply even pressure. Then apply the first coat of paint, let it dry at least 24 hours, lightly sand it again for a completely smooth surface, and apply the second coat. After each sanding, vacuum the trim, then wipe it down with a tack cloth to remove the dust.

Eldest Jonas Brother Sells New Jersey Mansion

Kevin Jonas, the eldest member of pop-rock trio The Jonas Brothers, is starting a construction company near his hometown in New Jersey. His first project: a home for himself, wife Danielle and their new baby, Alena.

With their larger, new home constructed, K2 and his family have sold their house at 5 Roleson Way in Denville, NJ, for $1.675 million.

The home, which was a new construction when the young couple moved there in 2010, was the scene of the short-lived E! reality series “Married to Jonas.” In that show, Danielle Jonas lived out the teenage dream of marrying and settling down with her Jonas Brother.

The show filmed the couple planting trees, hosting parties and arguing about the in-laws. One major plot point: house-hunting. Jonas and his bride wanted a new home in the area.

Instead of finding one, he found a new career and launched JonasWerner construction. He is currently working on a home for another celebrity couple in Franklin Lakes, said Celia Riggio of Terrie O’Connor Realtors.

Listing agent Amy Werner shared the Roleson Way listing with Riggio. The home, in a development about a half-hour from where the famous boy band members grew up, is anything but edgy. Decorated in neutrals, it has basically the same traditional look as this Vaquero golf estate Jonas sold in 2011.

The New Jersey home was listed in October and sold quietly in January after a luncheon open house for agents. Final papers were not signed until recently. In the meantime, the Jonases welcomed baby Alena in February.

The Jonas Brothers officially broke up in 2013 over a creative dispute, and since then they have pursued acting careers and other individual pursuits. Kevin and Joe announced a “speaking tour” recently, to talk publicly about their lives.

Kevin Jonas bought the Roleson Way home for $1.19 million. It has 4,788 square feet, 5 bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. The listing photos offer a glimpse into the couple’s life there, including guitars and a wedding photo on display.

Cut and fold a box spring

Is your box spring too big to fit in your stairway or around a tight corner? You could buy a “split” box spring designed specifically for this (and pay several hundred bucks) or cut your existing box spring and fold it so it fits. Sound extreme? There's actually a simple, ingenious way to cut and fold your box spring without wrecking it.

1. Cut the frame

Remove the fabric covering (the most tedious part of this whole process is removing the staples) and place the box spring face down. Pull back the mattress cover along each side and cut through the frame just to the left or right of the middle crosspiece (don't cut through the crosspiece itself). Do this on both sides and in the center.

2. Fold it

You can now fold the box spring like a book as shown and move it. Secure it with a strap to prevent it from springing open.

3 Put it back together

Screw a 1x2 along the center crosspiece cuts and against the inside of the outer frame to reinforce them. Then staple the fabric covering in place.
